Shear Outback is located at the junction of the Sturt and Cobb Highways in Hay NSW – halfway between Sydney and Adelaide.
Opened on Australia Day 2002 the first event for the Year of the Outback to commemorate the contribution and influence the shearers and the shearing industry has on our Australian heritage and culture.
Volunteers greet visitors and guide them through what Shear Outback has to offer, including the Hall of Fame, Shearing Museum where there are hands - on interactives including Jackie Howe’s blades where you can try and beat his unbroken record for blade shearing which has stood for over 100 years, Café and the Historic Murray Downs Woolshed where live shearing demonstrations are held three times daily.
On the grounds we have a fully stored wool wagon and a maze to explore which is based on sheep circling when being rounded up.
The magnificent homestead garden is a real showpiece looked after by an enthusiastic group of volunteers who are very proud of their achievements, especially during the drought of the past years.
